Adam has been trying to convince me for days that we should change Jayden's formula. I said I agreed he seemed to be having stomach problems, but I felt like we should give it a few more days and see. The doctor said it could take weeks to work.
I kept thinking that it's supposed to be the best and everything I have read has said it's so gentle on their stomach that it couldn't be the cause of stomach problems. But, both of us knew he wasn't doing well.
Last night Adam made a bottle and I fed him. For the first time in days he actually ate the whole bottle and he didn't even cry while eating. He had no problem burping and he didn't spit up. I said something to Adam and he said, "That's because it's soy." That tricky, tricky man. He switched the formulas.
So, we have officially switched back to soy again.
I think the original progress we had seen with the formula was due to us starting to use Mylicon drops for his colic around that time.
They can say it's gentle and wonderful all they want, but it's still a milk based formula, and I just don't think he can have milk at all. Which is fine because we drink soy milk in this house anyway.
(Have any of you tried Silk's mint chocolate soy milk? The container says the flavor is "seasonal." It's really good. I have added it to hot chocolate and coffee, and made a smoothie with it. Yum.)

When you switch it can take 6-10 days to take effect. I had to do this with 2 of my children. Stick with the soy for at least two weeks. Hope he is feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteCrazy about the formula, and how much it made a difference!
ReplyDeleteI hope the change continues to help.
ReplyDeleteI drink Light Silk Chocolate milk and am now going to look for the mint. Yum...chocolate and mint, two of my favorite things.

I'm glad you found a formula that works for him -hopefully it keeps up!
ReplyDeleteSame roller coaster with Mabester. The ped kept having us re-challenge at like 6 months and 1 yr with something dairy based, but each time she was miz. So I decided if she wants to drink cow milk when she can tell me it makes her feel sick, she can choose to do that...We have soy in the house anyways, so really it wasn't a big deal..Hope the lil man is doing better!
ReplyDeleteWe had the same trouble. Our ped kept telling us he was "just fussy" yeah, right. When we switched we saw the difference immediately. We tried to switch back one time, at 8 months, but it is VERY obvious that he cannot have any milk or dairy products. He is two now and we check the labels of every food we give him for milk, whey, casein, and other milk-products. The good news it that something like 90% of kids outgrow this problem by age 4 or 5. We look forward to just buying food without reading the ingredients. And giving him cheese!
ReplyDeleteMy sister was the same way when she was a baby and the soy did the trick for her. Hope it continues to work.
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet it's CHEAPER!! Yay! :) I'm so glad you guys found something that works better for his little tummy. Sneaky Adam!
ReplyDeleteglad you found a formula that works. Your kiddo is so cute. Congrats.
ReplyDeletewe just adopted our little guy too.
happy iclw
Phew. It can be so hard to tell what's going on with a baby. We were super lucky with that. He seemed ok with any formula we gave him. But these little guys can be tricky.
ReplyDeleteDelurking to congratulate you on Jayden and to say I hope the soy formula works better for him! I was wondering if you have tried wearng Jayden in a wrap around the house? I have a 3 week old and it has been a miracle when he is fussy or gassy (I know it doesn't solve the formula problem, but it might buy you some extra rest:)
