Hair Care Class

Tonight Adam and I are going to an African American hair care class.

The class is about an hour and a half away and it starts at 6. My Mom is coming here to watch the kids until their parents come to pick them up and Adam got someone to cover for him at work so we could leave on time. I am grateful to have an amazing Mom who is willing to come here after a long day of work so we can go. They only have the class once a year so we didn't want to miss the opportunity.

I am a little nervous to go because I get nervous going into any new situation, but I know we will learn a lot. It will also give us a chance to spend some time with other people who are waiting to adopt as well as people who already have adopted.

  1. That sounds SO awesome, Lisa! I'm a bit jealous. I self-taught and got advice from friends for KJ's hair. I think with ND I'm going to have to enlist some help!

  2. You'll be great. Once you get past the fear, you realize IT'S ALL JUST HAIR.

  6. OMG, that sounds like the best class ever! I've often worried to myself how on earth I would do my little adopted babies' hair, but now I know there are classes for that! PHEW!

    Have fun!

  7. I'd say sounds fun, but having lived through dealing with my own african hair, it sooo isn't. If it's a girl it's complicated, but for a boy, every mother I knew, including my own just kept him bald until they were old enough to decide for themselves.

What I never hear about, and may very well need to know, is how to care for european type hair. I'm thinking washing once a week and keeping it oiled is not the way to go lol! I may be adopting a Latina child and there aren't classes for that.

  8. What a great class to have! I've known people who've adopted sweet little ones and had to learn how to take care of their hair. I hope it's fun and informative and you have a great time! :)

  9. I am so glad you are taking this class. So many white adoptive parents don't. I can't tell you how many people I know who have ruined their child's hair and scalp because they didn't know how to care for AA hair.
